The Pancham da!

The Pancham da!

When you are born to someone who is a master of a specific art himself, you will need to struggle more to prove yourself and this is what exactly Rahul Dev Burman did. His father, Sachin Dev Burman was already a highly respected and sought after musician and following his footsteps, our dear own Pancham da started to compose music . But unlike his father, RD Burman created a niche first and then a complete hurricane that took the Indian Film Industry by storm.

Every singer who has sung with him not only reported an infection of a new enthusiasm but a never dying spirit of passion and laughter. He was way ahead of his time and RD Burman was, is and will always be one of the finest musicians of Bollywood. No one will ever be able to compete with him for eons to come that is for sure!

All his songs are wonderful but here are a few that we completely adore.

Happy Birthday Pancham da, you are here with us through your songs!

1. Chura liya hai tumne jo dil ko

You cannot teach a girl to fall out of the love in this song! It is so perfect that it can be played on loop forever!

The jingling glasses, melodious Asha Bhosle and Mohammed Rafi set the mood completely romantic while Pancham da mesmerised us with wonderful music.

2. Tere bina zindagi se koi shikwa

Substantial is the word!

There is such a calmness in this song that you feel every rhythm, every word profoundly.

3. Jai jai shiv shankar

We bet you to find a more fun filled song than this one. One cannot simply keep calm when this song is being played.

4. Baahon mein chale aao

Melodious. The way RD Burman has woven Lata Mangeshkar's voice in this number is extremely magnificent.

Ekam sekam aaj toh khul ke milo zara hum se.. This is love!

5. Raat kali ek khwaab mein aayi

Perhaps every guy can relate to this song.

While the beautiful lyrics are second to none, Pancham da perhaps knew that this song would be every guy's fetish and hence he made it so lovingly that it is very obvious.

6. Golmaal hai bhai sab golmaal hai

There has been no song ever that could replace this. Even today when something goes wrong or we suspect anything fishy, this is the first song that comes to our mind.

7. Mehbooba o mehbooba!

Surprise! RD Burman sang and how! This is one song that had to be incorporated into an epic film and Pancham da knew how to nail it.

8. Tujhse naraaz nahi zindagi

Soul touching. The song does realize a sad state and the music adds to the effects but it is not depressing. It does make you reflect you upon life and the situations.

9. Ye shaam mastaani

RD Burman, Kishore Kumar and Rajesh Khanna? There has to be love and soulful music around. These three were the combo for a hit formula!

10. Tum se mil ke

No. No one else could have composed this song so beautifully.

We just cannot imagine. This song is so beautiful that people have used to cash their accounts a numerous times but the original stays the best.

11. Ek chatur naar

Romance, sadness, first love, happiness, all over. Now what remains? Comedy? Yes, well he did that too and it is hilarious!

12. O mere sona re

Blended music with his love of life- Asha Bhosle and Pancham da gave us a tune to remember for ages to come.

13. Aap ki aankhon mein kuch

Pncham da, Gulzar, Kishore da and Lata Mangeshkar! This had to be on our list!

14. Rooth na jaana

Filled with fun, a cheerful song, this was one of the last few that he composed before saying goodbye to us.

15. Dum maaro dum

The anthem.

Period.

Pancham da was not only the best, he was way too ahead of his time and has left us with tunes that are second to none. We will always miss you maestro!
