Entrepreneur or running a business? Employees undermining you? You need to step up!

Lets face a fact, All employees are not gems. They will annoy you, procrastinate their work, use office time to carry on personal work or simply not be serious. Trust us, you cannot tackle by being a simpleton who loves the employees and takes care of them. Indeed it is a necessity that the genuine people be really helped and taken into consideration. But the ones who come to office to use your ACs or internet or the free 'chai' and relax, meeting no targets or deadlines and doing nothing?

Time to tighten your grip Monsieur!

1. The attitude matters!

1. The attitude matters!

Dress formal or casual or as you like. But have an attitude that says that the work needs to be done on time, at par with the standards and within the resources of your company.

Before speaking something strict or coming to a conclusion, make sure you make certain gestures your habits. This will result in employees understanding about what is to come. For example, if you bend on their desk before scolding them, next time they will automatically understand the moment you lean on their desk.

Purpose solved!

2. Obtain a level of sarcasm

2. Obtain a level of sarcasm

Yes, that helps.

Be up to date with your business' facts and data and when someone tries to manipulate you, show them the reality check and their position. You must not accept sweet talks or flattery. In fact the moment they begin it, stop and say that it would rather please me if you got some fingers typing or moving yourself, out in the street selling the product.

Your employees need to understand that when you mean business, you are concerned only about the stuff that is associated with it.

3. Don't fall for the traps

3. Don't fall for the traps

Never ever!

Appreciate the drama but do not fall for stupid and lame excuses that your employees come up with. It is a wide spread truth that the moment you get too frank with people, they will make benefit of you being a soft hearted person and come with reasons for not working or too many leaves or simply lazing around. Don't let that happen. Keep everyone on their toes.

4. Keep in touch with your clients

4. Keep in touch with your clients

Do not depend only on your employees. Be in constant contact with the clients your company caters to or even the service providers. No client shall know you only through your employee. Because once the employee leaves, the bridge between your client and you is lost. Also, it is necessary that you keep a check on your employee by speaking to the client directly.

No employee should be left on their own to tackle a client. A team should always be formed and you- informed.

5. Anything new? Yes I know.

5. Anything new? Yes I know.

There is something new in your field? Get to know it before anyone else does. Be it an idea, a technology, product, marketing skill set or even a machine- make sure you know it before the employee comes and tells you about it.

Never let the employee feel that you can depend on him. Instead, make sure you talk about the things first and ask for implementation. Value your employee but in the right amount.

And the way to do all this? Read and watch. Keep an eye open for anything that is related to your field.

6. Appreciate them too!

6. Appreciate them too!

If they do something good, appreciation should be on its way.

A boss and a leader are not too different people. But sometimes it is necessary that you adopt stricter ways for the employees who take the whole company and business as just another affair. It is a dream that you have seen. You need people to work for it and the right way to do is by being both- the boss and the leader. The idea is not to scare them but to have them understand that it is no joke to you and you have strived your life for it.
